Objective
Longhorn Distillers wanted a bold, authentic label design for their Texas Bourbon Whiskey that would stand out on shelves while staying true to the rugged, independent spirit of Texas. The challenge was to blend heritage with modern visual impact in a way that appealed to both traditional bourbon drinkers and younger audiences discovering craft spirits.
Process
- Research & Inspiration: Studied competitive bourbon packaging and Texan visual culture — cattle ranches, western typography, earthy color palettes.
- Concept Development: Explored several directions, including vintage scripts, minimalist badges, and rustic poster-inspired layouts.
- Design Execution: Selected a grunge western aesthetic, featuring strong slab typography and a distressed background. Integrated the iconic longhorn silhouette to immediately tie the product back to its Texan roots.
- Mockups: Produced digital bottle mockups and tested compositions in both bar shelf and e-commerce contexts.
Solution
The final design combines bold typography, distressed textures, and western iconography to capture the bourbon’s character. The warm, earthy tones echo whiskey’s richness, while the distressed overlays reinforce an authentic, rugged Texas feel.
